Then there is the project that will reshape the east end again in a year. Shell Point Beach & Surf Club is planned just east of Topgolf as a 10.5 acre destination anchored by an Endless Surf lagoon designed to produce year-round waves. Plans include a family beach, kids' splash pad, two-story open-air clubhouse with restaurant and bar, a members' beach club with private pool and spa, a swim-up bar overlooking the lagoon, and a surf academy running from beginner through pro coaching. Construction is slated to begin in 2026 with an opening target of 2027. For anyone who owns property nearby, that timeline is worth marking.

Tootsies Orchid Lounge is also part of the shuffle. After eighteen years inside Pier Park, the Pier Park location has closed and the venue is moving to a larger beachfront space. Same operator, bigger footprint, different address.

Margaritaville's Clubhouse Changed What "In Town" Means for a Certain Crowd

If you have not walked through the new Margaritaville Beach Cottage Resort clubhouse recently, it is worth a look. The building now houses the Licensed To Chill Restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, the Fins Up Fitness Center, Fin City Arcade, and a market called Joe Merchand's Provisions. A third-floor event space is under construction and reads, from what has been shown, like a future venue for community holiday parties and family reunions rather than a resort-only amenity.

For a resident, the practical read is this. A property that used to be a hotel with a restaurant is turning into a small, walkable node with a gym, a corner store, a bar, and event space in a single complex. That is a different thing to live near than a hotel.

If you have not been to Hook'd Pier Bar & Grill since the fire, the rebuild is underway. The team has said they hope to reopen by spring 2026, and the new version is planned with more seating, a bigger deck, and two floors. Worth checking the timeline before you plan a group dinner there this fall.

The Sit-Down Scene Keeps Tilting Toward Thomas Drive

The east-end story is not only about Pier Park's flank. Thomas Drive continues to attract the sit-down rooms that locals return to. McGuire's Irish Pub, the third location after Destin and Pensacola, is open in Panama City Beach and running the same New York Irish saloon format. Big Easy PCB, at 8744 Thomas Drive, has settled in as an anchor for Cajun and Creole cooking on that corridor. Runaway Island, on the water, has leaned harder into a weekend brunch rhythm, opening at 10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays with Gulf-front seating that has become a standing plan for a lot of regulars.

Foghorns Bar and Package, for its part, closed on September 2, 2025 and the building is being torn down. The team has said they are working on a new location. If you had it in your rotation, it is off the map for now.

The reason to pay attention to this drift is simple. The center of gravity for a Saturday night out is not where it was five years ago. When you tell out-of-town friends where to book a table, the answer is increasingly east of Pier Park rather than west of it.
